I went for a swim here, and then when I came back to my towel I found a beautiful dead butterfly and the newly shed skin of a snake. Something to think about.

I never liked autumn growing up. It was probably a combination of starting school, sports practice, and pretending to like football. Now, I make sure to take a few weeks in early fall and spend them as my “summer”. This year I’ve done Rome, Pantelleria, Favignana, London, Cornwall & Wales. Last year I did Iceland and northern Norway. Then, the year before I went walking in Transylvania. And then, it was Corfu, Albania, & North Macedonia. My favorite personal ritual.
